Softball Earns Sweep at Delaware State

Red Foxes Allow Just One Hit in Each Game

DOVER, Delaware - The Marist softball team earned a non-conference doubleheader sweep at Delaware State on Wednesday afternoon. The Red Foxes won both games in six innings, as they earned a 10-1 win in game one and a 9-0 triumph in the second contest.

Marist pitchers allowed just one hit in each game. Calista Phippen and Meghan Haff combined for the one-hitter in game one, and Maddie Pleasants tossed a one-hit shutout in game two.
 
Game One
  • Shea Walsh singled to center in the top of the second inning, scoring Maddie Pleasants.
  • In the top of the third, Sam Freeland singled to shortstop and advanced to second on a throwing error. Peyton Pusey advanced to third. Hannah Brock scored on the throwing error.
  • Haley Ahr scored singled to second base. Freeland advanced to third base and Peyton Pusey came in to score off the single.
  • Freeland came in to score off a throwing error to third base.
  • Reese Wilson hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Ahr.
  • In the top of the sixth, Walsh collected her second RBI single of the day scoring Kaitlyn Husic. Alyssa Grupp would advance to third.
  • Meghan Davis hit an RBI single to shortstop scoring Alyssa Grupp.
  • Hannah Brock hit a big three-run home run to left centerfield scoring Meghan Davis and Shea Walsh.
  • Brock went 2-for-3 in the game with three RBIs.
  • Maddie Pleasants also went 2-for-3 and had two doubles.
  • Calista Phipppen struck out seven and allowed just one hit and three walks in five innings. Meghan Haff pitched a hitless sixth and allowed an unearned run.
Game Two
  • Peyton Pusey started off the game with a walk and stole second base. A single by Sam Freeland advanced Pusey to third. 
  • Two runs were scored in the first inning after Pusey scored off a passed ball and Sam Freeland scored off a groundout.   
  • In the second inning, Pusey doubled to right center and then advanced to third off a stolen base.
  • Hits by Ronni Howard, Pusey, and Freeland and an error helped Marist score five runs in the fourth inning, making the score 7-0.
  • Hannah Brock led off the sixth inning with a single through the right side.  
  • Kaitlyn Husic reached base on a fielder's choice. She was able to advance to third after a single to right field by Isabella Manory. A throwing error helped Husic score and advanced Manory to third.
  • Maddie Gore hit an RBI single to bring Manory home for the final run of the game.
  • Maddie Pleasants pitched six innings and gave up only one hit in the shutout victory.
  • Both Pusey and Freeland led the Red Foxes recording two hits and scoring two runs apiece. 
  • Maddie Gore went 1-for-3 with two RBIs
  • Haley Ahr went 1-1 with one walk, one run, and two stolen bases.
  • Marist stole nine bases in the game.
  • Uxua Modrego Lopez recorded the only hit for Delaware State
 
Records
  • Marist improved to 10-18 on the season.
  • Delaware State dropped to 6-16.
 
Up Next
  • Marist opens MAAC play and its home schedule this weekend. The Red Foxes are scheduled to play doubleheaders against Niagara on Saturday and Canisius on Sunday.
  • Game one first pitch is scheduled for noon on Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sunday.
