POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist played a doubleheader today against Canisius in their first conference matchups of the season. Canisius won the first game, 12-3 in six innings, but Marist came back and won the second game, 8-0, in five innings.
 
Kiley Myers pitched a shutout, giving up only three hits, and 
Peyton Pusey hit a home run to lead the Red Foxes to victory in game two. 
Alyssa Grupp had three hits and three stolen bases.
 
	- Canisius took the lead the first inning on a 2-run homer by Christie McGee-Ross.
 
	- Sam Freeland reached base for Marist and then scored off an error in the bottom of the first
 
	- In the third, Canisius scored five runs with the help of back-to-back homers, bringing the score to 7-1.
 
	- Marist cut the deficit in the bottom of the third inning after a sacrifice fly by Shea Walsh, which brought in Haley Ahr.
 
	- To start the fourth inning, Hannah Brock doubled to left field.  Sam Freeland hit an RBI double, bringing in Brock from second base, making the score 7-3 going into the fifth inning.
 
	- Canisius scored two runs in the fifth inning and three in the sixth inning to close the game out in six.
 
	- Freeland went 2-for-4 with a double, RBI, and run scored.
 
 
	- Hannah Brock walked and scored on of a two-out error for the first run of the game, making the score 1-0 in the second inning.
 
	- The Marist defense held Canisius scoreless early. The Red Foxes turned double plays in each of the first two innings, and Kaitlyn Husic had a circus catch in the third inning.
 
	- In the third, Sam Freeland doubled and scored on an error. Shea Walsh hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Maddie Pleasants, making the score 3-0.
 
	- Peyton Pusey started the fourth inning with a solo homer, extending the lead to 4-0.
 
	- The Red Foxes' bats stayed alive, as Alyssa Grupp, Pleasants, and Freeland, all reached base in the fourth. A throwing error helped Freeland score, extending the lead to 5-0 at the end of the fourth inning.
 
	- RBI singles by Haley Ahr, Pleasants, and Grupp in the fifth inning help end the game by mercy rule, with a final score of 8-0.
 
	- Myers needed just 57 pitches in her three-hit shutout.
 
	- Grupp went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases. Pusey and Pleasants each had two hits. Pusey and Freeland each scored twice.
 
 
	- Canisius moves to 11-12.
 
	- Marist moves to 11-19.
 
 
	- The Red Foxes are back home on Monday another doubleheader against Niagara.  
 
	- The first game will begin at 11 a.m.
