Marist Claims Second Straight MAAC Championship with 4-0 Win Over Iona

Metzger Throws Complete-Game Shutout as Red Foxes Win Third MAAC Title in Four Years

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist University softball team captured its second straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship and third in the last four years with a 4-0 win over Iona on Sunday morning at Gartland Field. The Red Foxes will enter the NCAA Tournament on a 17-game winning streak.

SUMMARY
  • Marist broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth. Sienna Kunze led off the inning with a single, and Samantha Rogers brought her home with an RBI double to right field.
  • The Red Foxes added three more runs in the fifth. Annabelle Geiser singled to lead off the inning before Peyton Pusey hit a two-run homer to center field.
  • Two batters later, Haley Ahr added a solo homer to right center to extend the lead to 4-0.
  • Ava Metzger held Iona scoreless throughout the game. The graduate student allowed just three hits in a complete-game shutout.
