Women's Basketball Tops Siena 73-54

Red Foxes Pick Up Sixth Straight Win Behind Hand Double-Double

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist women's basketball team picked up its sixth consecutive win and 10th Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victory of the season with a 73-54 win over the Siena Saints at McCann Arena on Saturday night.

With the victory, the Red Foxes improved to 14-10 (10-2 MAAC) on the season.

SUMMARY

After the Saints opened the scoring at the 8:07 mark of the first quarter, the Red Foxes answered back and built up a lead of as many as nine with a made free throw by junior Maura Fitzpatrick with 1:13 left in the quarter and after one period, Marist held the nine point lead.

The Red Foxes carried their momentum into the second quarter and built up a then game high 10 point lead on a jumper by sophomore Rebekah Hand that gave Marist the 21-11 lead. Siena trimmed the deficit to five at 21-16 with 2:14 left in the half but the Red Foxes answered with a 6-0 run over the next 45 seconds and halftime with the 27-17 advantage.

The third quarter was much of the same as Marist took a 16 point lead at 40-24 on a three pointer by freshman Allie Best. The Saints answered back, bringing the score to 42-31 with 19 seconds remaining in the quarter and the two teams headed to the final 10 minutes with the Red Foxes holding the 11 point lead.

However, the fourth quarter proved to be all Marist as they took over in the final period, building the lead to as many as 25 with a made free throw by redshirt sophomore Alana Gilmer at the 3:18 mark and walking away with the 73-54 win.

  • The Red Foxes shot .382 from the field and .333 from three point range, while Siena shot .316 from the floor and .278 from behind the arc
  • The Saints outrebounded Marist 41-38 and 16-11 on the offensive glass
  • Siena finished with 18 turnovers to the Red Foxes' 14

  • R. Hand's 52 consecutive free throw makes is tied for 7th in NCAA Division 1 history (Elle Delle Donne, 2011)
  • R. Hand's double-double is her 2nd of this season and sixth in her career
