POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Red-shirt junior quarterback
Mike White of the Marist football team was named Pioneer Football League Offensive Player of the Week on Sunday.
White accounted for 399 yards of offense (337, 58 rushing, four receiving) and three touchdowns (two rushing, one passing) in Marist's 38-17 triumph over Stetson on Saturday. He set a career high with 32 completions, which is the second-highest single-game total in program history.
Marist trailed Stetson 14-0 through the game's first 29 minutes, but rebounded to outscore the Hatters 38-3 over the final 31 minutes. White directed a seven-play, 80-yard touchdown drive that ended in a touchdown pass to red-shirt sophomore
Isaiah Watson in the final minute of the first half. His 18-yard rushing score in the fourth quarter gave Marist the lead for good, and his 12-yard touchdown run closed out the scoring.
It was the third PFL weekly award White has won in his career. He previously was honored once apiece in the 2015 and 2016 seasons. It is the first weekly PFL honor for the Red Foxes this season.
Marist (1-1) returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 16, when the Red Foxes travel to Georgetown (1-0) for a non-league game. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
