Marist Women's Basketball Alum Maureen Magarity Named Head Coach At New Hampshire

DURHAM, N.H. - Maureen Magarity, the captain of the first Marist women's basketball team to reach the NCAA Tournament, has been named head coach of the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team. Magarity played for the Red Foxes from 2001-04, and began her coaching career as an assistant at Marist.

Magarity served as team captain in Brian Giorgis' first two years as head coach of the Red Foxes (2002-04). She led the team in scoring in the 2002-03 season, and was second on the Red Foxes' in scoring in the 2003-04 season, in which they advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. She was a Second Team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) selection both seasons, and was named to the MAAC All-Tournament Team in 2004.

Prior to landing the New Hampshire job, Magarity served as an assistant at Marist (2004-05), Fairfield (2005-06) and Army (2006-10). She was associate head coach at Army this past season while serving under head coach Dave Magarity, her father and the Marist men's basketball coach from 1986-2004.

Of the 14 players on Marist's 2004 championship team, eight are now coaching. All five members of that team's senior class - Magarity, Stephanie Del Preore, Kerry Sullivan, Nina Vecchio and Vicki Wancel - having coaching jobs. Del Preore (assistant, Stevens Tech) and Wancel (assistant, Northeastern) are in the collegiate ranks, while Sullivan and Vecchio are coaching scholastic teams. Two members of that team - Alisa Kresge and Kristin Hein, a freshman on that team, is also coaching scholastically.
