The Marist Athletic Department released the spring 2012 schedule
for the Women's Tennis team on Monday. Coming off of a fall slate in which the
team faced competition in four regional tournaments, the Red Foxes will compete
in 15 matches in the spring in search of the program's fourth MAAC Championship.
In addition to their seven MAAC contests, the team will face non-conference
opposition from eight teams from six different leagues.
Marist's season kicks off in conference on Saturday, February
25 at Saint Peter's against the Peahens, the first of six away matches to start
the season. The following weekend, the
Red Foxes will take on the Quinnipiac Bobcats from the NEC on Friday, March 2
and the Army Black Knights from the Patriot league on Saturday, March 3. Both
matches will be hosted at Army's Lichtenberg Tennis
Center.
The Red Foxes will pick up their schedule eight days later
when they begin a set of three neutral site games in Orlando, Fla. during
Spring Break. Starting on Sunday, March 11 and going through the 14th,
the Red Foxes play Bethune Cookman, North Dakota and Colgate.
The first home match of the season for Marist will be on
Sunday, March 25 when they host Albany from the America East Conference. Three
days later, the team will be back on the road when they meet another America
East foe in the University of Hartford on Wednesday, March 28.
Beginning on Saturday, March 31, the Red Foxes will begin a
stretch of three consecutive MAAC contests. A home match versus Niagara is
first off on Saturday with another home tilt versus Fairfield on Wednesday,
April 4. This stretch of MAAC games concludes with an away meeting at Siena on
Tuesday, April 10.
The team's final home match of the season will be on
Wednesday, April 11 versus Fordham.
Marist wraps up its season with three away conference
matches over a five day span. Beginning on Sunday, April 15, the Red Foxes will
play at Loyola, Manhattan (April 17) and Rider (April 20).
With eight days off to prepare, the Red Foxes will look to
defend their 2011 title at the MAAC Championships at Mercer County Park on Saturday,
April 28 and 29.
