POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's lacrosse team (6-2, 0-0 MAAC) extended its three-game winning streak with a 12-7 win over Binghamton on Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore Allison Gionta (Eastport, N.Y.) had a game-high six points, with four goals and two assists.

Junior Kirsten Viscount (Smithtown, N.Y.) netted two goals and one assist. Junior Emily Leonard (Brookfield, Conn.) had two goals and sophomore Kara McHugh (Madison, Conn.) dished out two assists and contributed an additional goal.

Freshman Natalie Bonaroti (Pittsburgh, Pa.) added one goal and one assist. Senior Jamie Romano (Kings Park, N.Y.) and junior Lexi Brannigan (Loudonville, N.Y.) contributed one additioinal goal each. Freshman goalkeeper Abigail Witczak (Mendham, N.J.) made 12 saves in the net for the Red Foxes.

Gionta opened up the game with back-to-back goals to give Marist an early 2-0- lead with 28:10 remaining in the first quarter. Binghamton's Brianne Arthur netted her first goal of the game at the 23:14 mark to pull the Bearcats within two.

Marist scored the next four goals to take a 6-1 lead with 20:52 to go in the first. Binghamton's Valerie DeNapoli scored at the 18:30 mark to trail the Red Foxes by four. Brannigan scored eight minutes later to push Marist ahead by five with 10:19 left. The Bearcats' Callon Williams added one more goal for Binghamton at the 8:17 mark to trail Marist 7-3 at the half.

Romano and Leonard netted back-to-back goals in the opening two minutes of the second half to extend Marist's lead 9-3 with 28:13 to go. Three different Bearcats scored for Binghamton in the ensuing 15 minutes to cut the Red Fox lead to three with 10:30 left in the second half. Marist relentlessly fought back and scored three straight goals, by Gionta, Viscount, and Bonaroti, to double the Bearcats, 12-6, wtih 1:50 to go. Binghamton's DeNapoli snuck one more in at the 17 second mark but the Red Foxes walked away with a 12-7 victory to improve to 6-2 on the year.

Marist returns to action on Wednesday, Apr. 2 at Canisius. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. in Buffalo, N.Y.
