POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Marist water polo freshman Alison Hamby (Sacramento, Calif.) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Year. She was joined by sophomore goalkeeper Rebecca Thomas (Cape Town, South Africa), who was named the MAAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year.

Hamby finished the regular season fourth on the Red Foxes with 41 goals and second in overall points with 68. She was also one of Marist's leaders on the defensive end with 29 steals and five field blocks. She was twice named the MAAC Rookie of the Week.

Thomas led the MAAC with an average 10.13 saves per game to help the Red Foxes earn a second seed in the MAAC Water Polo Championship. Thomas also earned five Defensive Player of the Week selection this season to lead the league.

Kelly Kline (Reading, Pa.) was the Red Foxes lone representative on the All-MAAC First Team. Thomas, Desiree Desaulniers (Orlando, Fla.), Jaclyn Puccino (San Diego, Calif.) and Robyn Crabtree (Cutler Bay, Fla.) all were named to the Second Team.

Additionally, six student-athletes were named to the MAAC All-Academic Team. Desaulniers and Kline each were selected for the third time in their careers. Crabtree, Heather Fellmeth (North Wales, Pa.) and Shelby Rinker (Lansdale, Pa.) each earned their second recognition while Kathryn Knutson (Oakland, Calif.) was named for the first time.

The second-seeded Red Foxes open up the MAAC Championships in the second semifinal versus third-seeded Wagner at 3 p.m. The top seed Iona will play the fourth seed Villanova in the other semifinal, which will take place at 1 p.m. The consolation and championship game will take place on Sunday at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. All games will be played at Marist's McCann Natatorium.
