POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist men’s soccer team will host Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opponent Fairfield on Saturday night in its last game of the 2013 regular season. Kickoff at Tenney Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. Before the start of the game, seniors Pablo Cameselle (Greenwich, Conn.), Tony Carreras (Valley Stream, N.Y.), Gerry Ceja (Port Chester, N.Y.), Greg Davis (Jamaica, N.Y.), Anthony Sokalski (London, Ontario), and Evan Southworth (Newburgh, N.Y.) will be honored for their accomplishments and commitment to the program.
Last Time Out: Marist (2-7 MAAC) took on ninth place Niagara (3-5-1 MAAC) on Wednesday out in Buffalo. The Red Foxes fell to the Purple Eagles in a close 1-0 decision. Marist dominated the performance, outshooting Niagara 22-10 and an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks. Sokalski recorded three saves in the net for Marist.
Last Meeting: On November 6th, 2011, fifth seeded Marist and top-seeded Fairfield met in the MAAC Championship semi-final game at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The Red Foxes fell to the Stags 3-1. Former Red Fox Lucas Szabo (Bethesda, Md.) scored Marist’s only goal in the 58th minute of the contest. The Red Foxes finished the game with a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks, but behind in shots on goal, falling 19-9 and 9-3. Marist ended their 2011 season with a 8-7-5 record.
Scouting Fairfield University: Fairfield is currently fifth in the MAAC with a 4-3-2 conference record and a 4-5-3 overall record. The Stags’ defeated Saint Peters on Wednesday 3-0. The top scorers for Fairfield are senior Reco McLaren, with eight goals, and senior Jon Clements with seven.
