Menís Soccer Travels To Niagara For Last Road Game
BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Marist men’s soccer team travels to Niagara in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game on Wednesday, Nov. 6. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. The Red Foxes are currently 2-6 in the MAAC.
Last Time Out: The Red Foxes traveled to Manhattan Saturday afternoon, and lost a close game 3-2. Manhattan struck first in the 25th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Marist responded almost 20 minutes later with a pair of goals just over a minute apart from seniors Greg Davis (Jamaica, N.Y.) and Tony Carreras (Valley Stream, N.Y.). In the 78th and 79th minutes, Manhattan’s Andrew Melitsanopoulous scored a pair, securing the Jaspers’ 3-2 victory.
Last Meeting: The last meeting between the two programs occurred last year on Sunday, Oct. 21. Marist hosted Niagara at Tenney Stadium on Senior Day. The Red Foxes lost a heartbreaking game, 2-1 in overtime. The game remained scoreless through 88 minutes, and then saw three goals scored within seven minutes of one another. Seniors Josh Faga (Rochester, N.Y.) and Stephan Brossard (Port Washington, N.Y.) teamed up to score to give the Red Foxes a short-lived 1-0 lead before the Purple Eagles scored off of a corner kick less than 30 seconds later and again in the 96th minute.
Scouting Niagara: Niagara is currently eighth overall in the MAAC with a 2-5-1 conference record and 4-11-1 overall record. In Niagara’s last game Saturday night on the road against MAAC leader Monmouth, the Purple Eagles were shutout 2-0 in a game where they were outshot 21-4. The game remained scoreless until the 73rd minute as Monmouth scored twice within an eight-minute span. Niagara’s leading scorer is junior forward Callum Wilmott with three goals and two assists. Freshman forward Nicholas Watson has two goals and three assists.
Following this matchup, the Red Foxes conclude their regular season schedule Saturday, Nov. 9 by hosting Fairfield at home on senior night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Tenney Stadium. Admission is free and open to the public.
