POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist men’s soccer team hosts Canisius in its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) home opener on Wednesday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Tenney Stadium. The Red Foxes are currently 0-1 in the MAAC.
Last Time Out: Marist (1-8 overall, 0-1 MAAC) opened MAAC play against Rider. The Broncs defeated the Red Foxes 3-1. Sophomore Steven Arraiano scored his second career goal in the 47th minute of the game to cut Rider’s deficit, 2-1. Freshman Dylan MacVane (Middlegrove, N.Y.) fed a long pass up the field to Arraiano who tapped the ball by the Broncs goalkeeper from ten yards out. Goalkeeper Anthony Sokalski (London, Ontario) recorded four saves.
Last Meeting: The last meeting between the two teams ended in favor of Canisius as the Golden Griffins defeated Marist 2-1. Cesar Ceja (Port Chester, N.Y.) registered his second goal of the 2012 season off an assist from graduated senior Josh Faga (Rochester, N.Y.). The Red Foxes outshot Canisius 17-10, with an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal. Sokalski finished with four saves.
Scouting Canisius College: Canisius finished last season 8-7-2 overall and 1-7 in conference, defeating Marist. The Golden Griffins are currently 4-3-2 overall and 0-0-1 in conference play, drawing their MAAC opener with Manhattan, 0-0. Alex De Carolis and Will Hudson lead Canisius with three goals apiece. Starting goalkeeper Ryan Arvin has recorded 29 saves and three shutouts this season.
Following this matchup, the Red Foxes remain home to host Saint Peter’s on Saturday, Oct. 12. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Tenney Stadium. Admission is free and open to the public.
