POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – On Wednesday, April 17, the Marist women’s lacrosse (6-8, 2-1 MAAC) team will host Iona (4-10, 2-2 MAAC) in a MAAC conference bout at 4 p.m. at Tenney Stadium. The Red Foxes will be looking to continue their recent stretch of hot play that has seen them win five of their last six contests. Meanwhile, Iona is looking to keep its momentum building coming off a 16-7 win against Niagara.

RED FOXES & GAELS: After a 6-0 start by Marist in the first six matchups of these two squads, Iona has found success recently with two consecutive wins, a 14-10 decision in 2011 in Poughkeepsie and an 11-3 result in New Rochelle in 2012.

Last year on April 11, Marist took a frustrating loss against Iona with a final score of 11-3. The Red Foxes were led by two goals by Ashley Miller and one goal by Kirsten Viscount; goalkeeper Ashley Casiano managed the defense with 13 saves.

Mary Kate McCormick (18g-9a), Brittney Mabus (11g-14a) and Meghan Testoni (9g-7a) join Gregory with as players with at least 15 points on the season.

Defensively, McCormick (13) and Angela Grous (12) lead the team in caused turnovers, while Jenna Stone spearheads Iona’s ground ball leaders with 24. In goal, Blaire Nathanson and Maria Ortiz have split time as the starter with Nathanson posting an 11.72 goals against average and a .444 save percentage, compared to Ortiz’s 14.33 gaa and .397 save percentage.

As a team, they score 8.36 goals per game, while allowing 14.14.

LAST TIME OUT: The Red Foxes routed Manhattan 22-8 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game at Tenney Stadium. It was the third time in the past six games that the Red Foxes have scored at least 20 goals. Kristen Viscount tied a career with five goals and Ashley Miller also had five points on three goals and two assists. Jamie Romano scored two goals and assisted on two others, while Sabrina Mattera had two goals and an assist.
