POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's lacrosse team, under the direction of third year head coach Jessica O'Brien, was named an Academic Squad by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) late Monday. The Red Foxes earned the award by maintaining a team grade-point average of 3.0 or better during the 2011 season.

"We are very fortunate to have student-athletes who understand the importance of balancing both academics and athletics, and who continuously challenge themselves in the classroom despite their sometimes overwhelming schedules" said O'Brien. "This team should be very proud to achieve such an award, as it entailed contributions from the entire squad. I look forward to working again with a team that understands their responsibilities as student athletes on and off the field."

Marist was one of four MAAC teams to be named an IWLCA Academic Squad.

This past spring, the Red Foxes ranked second in the conference in MAAC All-Academic selections with 10. To be selected to the team, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale and be enrolled at the institution for more than two semesters.
