POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's lacrosse team won its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opener on Saturday, as the Red Foxes defeated Siena 10-8. Trailing 7-6 at halftime, the Red Foxes allowed just one goal over the final 30 minutes of play.

Junior goalkeeper Ashley Casiano (South Windsor, Conn.) had 10 saves, with six of them coming in the second half. For the game, Siena outshot Marist, 29-21. The Saints were just 5-for-12 on free-position shots, while the Red Foxes were a perfect 2-for-2.

Junior attack Ashley Miller (Montville, N.J.) led the Red Foxes with three goals. Senior attack Kelly Condon (Roslyn, Pa.) and junior midfielder Amanda Tuck (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) had two goals apiece, with Tuck adding an assist. Senior midfielder Shannon Haas (Farmingdale, N.Y.) finished with one goal and two assists, sophomore midfielder Jamie Romano (Kings Park, N.Y.) tallied a goal and an assist, and senior attack Ariel Kramer (Syracuse, N.Y.) added a goal.

Marist held the lead for much of the first half, but two Siena goals by Michelle Andreo and one by Katie Maguire gave the Saints a 7-6 halftime lead. A goal by Condon, set up by Haas, tied the score just 2:31 into the second half. Shannon Pfohl's goal with 22:43 to play allowed Siena to re-claim the lead, but the Red Foxes then held the Saints scoreless for the remainder of the contest. Miller scored an unassisted goal at the 16:39 mark to tie the score, and then put the Red Foxes ahead for good just 1:46 later. Condon scored the final goal of the contest on free-position shot with 11:57 left.

Freshman defender Christine Astarita (Kennett Square, Pa.) led Marist with four ground balls. The Red Foxes were a perfect 14-for-14 on clears, while Siena was 12-for-14.

Maguire led Siena with three goals, with Andreo and Pfohl finishing with two apiece.

Marist is now 2-9 overall and 1-0 in the MAAC; Siena fell to 2-8 overall and 0-1 in MAAC play. The Red Foxes will return to action on Wednesday with a MAAC contest at Manhattan, which is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
