Amanda Tuck had two goals at Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - In the final game of a four game road trip, the Marist women's lacrosse team fell on Long Island to the Stony Brook Seawolves, 17-5. Two streaks of four unanswered goals in the second half by Stony Brook (6-3) contributed to the Red Foxes' defeat. Junior Amanda Tuck (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) led Marist (1-8) offensively with two goals scored.

The Red Foxes faced off with a talented Seawolves squad that was receiving votes in both the IWLCA Coaches and Inside Lacrosse deBeers Media Polls. After Stony Brook jumped out to a 4-0 lead over the first 12 minutes of play, Marist slowly chipped away at the lead with a Kirsten Viscount (Smithtown, N.Y.) draw control, Emily Leonard (Brookfield, Conn.) assist and Amanda Tuck conversion within a 32 second span.

Following this goal, the Red Foxes' goalie Ashley Casiano (South Windsor, Conn.) denied Emily Mercier's free-position shot and quickly began the team's transition out of their defensive end. Less than 45 seconds after the save Marist had earned a free-position attempt, that senior Shannon Haas (Farmingdale, N.Y.) converted at 14:40.

Stony Brook built its lead back to three at 5-2 before freshman Sabrina Mattera (Wantagh, N.Y.) took a pass from senior Kelly Condon (Roslyn, Pa.) and found the back of net for her first career goal at 12:31.

The Seawolves closed the half with a 3-0 run to make the score 8-3. Casiano played a huge role in keeping the Red Foxes within striking distance as she registered nine saves in the first 30 minutes.

Coming out of the half, Marist was able to cut its deficit down to four goals at 8-4 with Tuck's second tally of the game off of a Haas assist at 27:17.

A powerful Seawolf offense took over in the final 26 minutes, as they outscored the Red Foxes 9-1 down the stretch to complete the game at 17-6. Leonard netted Marist's lone goal with a tally at 16:42.

After 60 minutes of action in goal, Casiano turned aside a career-high 16 shots on goal.

Marist will next be in action on Wednesday, March 28 when they host Yale in a 4 p.m. matchup.
