Women’s Lacrosse Travels To Connecticut To Face Quinnipiac
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist women’s lacrosse team (9-2, 3-0 MAAC) is looking to remain perfect in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play and extend its winning streak to seven games on Sunday, April 13 against Quinnipiac (2-9, 2-2 MAAC). The game is scheduled to begin at noon in Hamden, Conn.
Sophomore Allison Gionta (Eastport, N.Y.) has a team high 31 points, including 21 goals and 10 assists. Junior Kirsten Viscount (Smithtown, N.Y.) has a team second-best 28 points, with 22 goals and six assists. Senior Jamie Romano (Kings Park, N.Y.) has recorded 27 points, including 26 goals and one assist.
Last Time Out: Marist picked up a 19-7 win over Niagara in a MAAC contest on Wednesday, April 9. With the Red Foxes’ sixth straight win, Marist broke the program record for most consecutive wins in a season, previously set in 2009 with five in a row. Marist improved to 9-2 overall, matching its win total from last season, and remains a perfect 3-0 in MAAC play to maintain its first-place standing.
Senior Tierney Larson (Fairfield, Conn.) led the Red Foxes with eight points, including two goals and six assists. Viscount had a game-high five goals and one assist while classmate Emily Leonard (Brookfield, Conn.) had one goal and four assists.
Last Meeting: This will be the first meeting between the two teams since Quinnipiac joined the MAAC for the 2013-14 school year. The teams last met on April 23, 2002 in Poughkeepsie. The Bobcats topped Marist, 13-11.
Scouting the Bobcats: Quinnipiac is currently 2-9 overall and 2-2 in conference play. The Bobcats’ two wins of the season were both MAAC wins, including a 12-11 defeat of Manhattan and a 15-9 victory over Iona. Junior attack Kyra Ochwat leads the team in points by a large margin with 42. Ochwat’s 42 points include 30 goals and 12 assists. Senior attack Kelly Babstock (17), senior midfielder Kearney Sneath (15), sophomore midfielder Aileen Carey (12),and senior attack Michaela Tinsley (12) are also in double point figures for Quinnipiac.
Following the match up, Marist returns home to face Manhattan on Wednesday, April 16. First draw is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Tenney Stadium. Admission is free and open to the public.
