POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist men's basketball program has hired Robert Hoey as Director of Operations, Head Coach Chuck Martin announced Thursday.
Hoey served as a manager for the men's basketball team in each of his four seasons as a student, and was head manager from 2009-12. He graduated Cum Laude from Marist in May 2012, receiving his B.A. in Sports Communication and minoring in Psychology
"I'm happy to hire one of our own," Martin said. "Rob is a loyal, committed, hard-working young man. There is no doubt he's going to do a tremendous job for us in the role of basketball operations."
In the summer of 2011, Hoey interned with the Maine Red Claws of the NBA Development League, whose NBA affiliations are the Boston Celtics, Charlotte Bobcats and Philadelphia 76ers. During his internship, he worked in the Basketball Operations Department. He assisted in game and practice film analysis, prepared video edits for coaches, players, and management and created scouting and personal reports in preparation for the 2011 NBA Development League Draft. Hoey also assisted in many of the community outreach programs.
During the summer of 2010, Hoey interned in the University of Connecticut Football Equipment Room, and assisted with all aspects of the daily football operations.
Hoey's extensive summer camp experience includes the Boston Celtics, UConn, Villanova, St. John's, The Hoop Group Elite/Eastern Invitational, Maine Red Claws Youth Camp as well as Marist.
"I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to serve as Director of Basketball Operations for the Marist men's basketball team, and I am committed to achieving excellence," Hoey said. "I have been blessed to have had an amazing four years as a student manager, and look forward to many new memories in my new position."
Prior to Marist, Hoey was a four-year manager at East Catholic High School in Manchester, Conn., under head coach Luke Reilly, advancing to the Class LL State Championship Game in 2006 and 2007.
