EDISON, N.J. - Sophomore center fielder Jake Berry (South Hamilton, Mass.) of the Marist baseball team was Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Week on Monday. Berry hit .588 (10-for-17) as the Red Foxes went 4-1 this past week, which included a home doubleheader sweep of Binghamton and a MAAC series win at Rider.

Berry had an on-base percentage of .600 and a slugging percentage of .824, and also hit .692 (9-for-13) as the Red Foxes took two out of three at Rider. Berry had a five-hit performance at Rider on April 20, as he went 5-for-5 with three runs scored, an RBI, a triple and two stolen bases. In Marist's 13-0 win in game one of a doubleheader on April 21, he went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. In Marist's 4-3 triumph in game two on April 21, he had a triple, a walk, and he scored the winning run on a play at the plate.

For the week, Berry had seven runs scored, three RBIs, two triples and two walks.

Berry is the first Red Fox to be named MAAC Player of the Week this season, and the award is the first of his career. This marks the fifth MAAC weekly award earned by a Marist player this year. Red-shirt senior left-hander Chad Gallagher (Southboro, Mass.) was named MAAC Pitcher of the Week on March 26 and April 16. Freshman second baseman Alec Petrone (Mahopac, N.Y.) was named MAAC Rookie of the Week on April 2, and freshman catcher Mark Brennan (Wallingford, Conn.) was named MAAC Rookie of the Week on Feb. 21.

Marist, which has won eight of its last 12, returns to action on Wednesday against Army in the seventh annual Hudson Valley Baseball Classic at Dutchess Stadium in Fishkill. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m., with a kids' clinic starting at 3 p.m. Both the game and clinic are free to attend. Further information about the game and clinic are available on the baseball page of GoRedFoxes.com.
