FARMVILLE, Va. – The Marist baseball team earned a 4-2 victory at Longwood in the finale of a four-game non-conference series on Sunday.

Sophomore center fielder Graham McIntire (Concord, N.H.) continued his hot hitting by going 3-for-5. Senior right fielder Pat Welsh (Millersvile, Pa.) and freshman designated hitter Tyler Kirkpatrick (Eagleville, Pa.) each contributed two hits, a run scored and an RBI.

On the mound, freshman right-hander Scott Boches (Featerville, Pa.) earned his first career victory by going 7.2 innings. Boches scattered seven hits and struck out three. Freshman right-hander Ryan Thomas (Ringoes, N.J.) got the final four outs without allowing a hit for his second save.

Welsh’s second-inning RBI single got Marist on the board first, but Longwood took the lead with two runs in the fourth. In the fifth, the Red Foxes took the lead back for good with two runs. Kirkpatrick drew a leadoff walk, and scored on an error on a bunt by sophomore left fielder Matt Pagano (Cranston, R.I.), who advanced to third himself on the play. Pagano scored one batter later on an RBI groundout by junior first baseman Steve Laurino (Carle Place, N.Y.).

The Red Foxes added their final run in the sixth on a two-out single by Welsh, who came around to score on a single by Kirkpatrick.

Catcher Mac McCafferty paced the Lancers offensively by going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Starter Brandon Vick, who went the first seven innings, took the loss and is 0-1.

Marist improved to 2-6; Longwood is now 4-4. The Red Foxes return to action with a three-game series at College of Charleston next weekend. The teams will play single games Friday (6 p.m.), Saturday (3 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.).
