EDISON, N.J. - Marist men's tennis senior Matt Himmelsbach (Longmeadow, Mass.) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Week on Tuesday. The honor recognizes his play for the Red Foxes so far this spring.

Himmelsbach has been Marist's top performer so far this spring as they have gone up against some of the top competition in the region. He opened the spring season at the Harvard Invite, going against three of the Crimson's top singles players and playing them all tough. Playing at the second singles position in dual matches at NJIT and Ivy League powerhouse Columbia, he defeated his Highlanders' opponent 6-3, 6-4 before forcing his opponent from Columbia to three sets before falling 6-7, 7-6, 1-6. Himmelsbach has also played at both the first and second doubles positions this spring, winning two matches. He defeated a pair from Harvard 8-2 and also salvaged the Red Foxes' lone win against Columbia 9-8 (10-5).

This is the third weekly award for Himmelsbach in his career. He was named Player of the Week twice during his sophomore year.

The Red Foxes return after a three week break this weekend at the Yale Invitational March 3-4. They will then make a spring break trip with dual matches in Texas and Louisiana before resuming MAAC play.
