Giudici And Fletcher Win Doubles Tournament
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The doubles pairing of Matteo (Parma, Italy) and Dylan Fletcher (Stow, Mass.) won two matches on Saturday to win the “Peach Draw” flight championship at the Brown Invitational. Additionally, six Red Foxes advanced to the championship match of their respective singles’ flights.
Giudici and Fletcher first beat their opponents from Brown in the semifinals, 8-2 before defeating another Brown duo, 8-2 in the championship.
Dalen Klassen (St. Louis, Mo.) and Trym Nagelstad (Oslo, Norway) won a pair of doubles matches to win the back draw championship in the “Grey Draw”. Lorenzo Rossi (Lugano, Switzerland) and Fredrik Bjerke (Oslo, Norway) fell in the semifinals of the “Peach Draw”, but came back to win a consolation match, 8-2. Joseph Dube (Livonia, Mich.) and Joe Motta (Staten Island, N.Y.) also fell in their semifinal match but bounced back for an 8-4 win over their opponents from Boston University in a consolation match. Jacob Solly (Sydney, Austalia) and Will Reznek (Toronto, Canada) did the same in the “Light Green Draw”, falling 8-5 in the semifinals but defeating a pairing from UConn 8-7 (1) in a consolation.
In singles, Reznek, Nagelstad and Giudici all won their first match of the day after being postponed from Friday. Giudici then went on to defeat his opponent from Merrimack, 6-0, 6-1 to advance to the championship match in the “Purple Draw”.
Rossi beat his Brown opponent 6-4, 6-2 to earn a spot in the “Yellow Draw” championship. Klassen and Dube also both beat their adversaries from Brown, both winning in three sets to punch tickets to their respective championship matches. Fletcher, playing in his first weekend of collegiate action, also won his semifinal match in the “Maroon Draw” 6-4, 6-2. Bjerke became the sixth player to advance to a championship match with a 6-3, 6-2 win in the “Green Draw”.
Solly won his back draw match in the “Pink Draw”, 6-3, 6-2 over his opponent from Colgate.
