Marist Women's Soccer To Host Iona On Senior Night

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist women’s soccer team hosts Iona on Wednesday night in its tenth Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game and final game of the 2013 regular season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Tenney Stadium. Prior to the start of the game, seniors Alycia Cartica (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.), Rycke Guiney (Naperville, Ill.), Kylee McIntosh (Cheshire, Conn.), Maria Moreno (Oyster Bay, N.Y.), Samantha Pace (Kearny, N.J.) and Samantha Panzner (Livingston, N.J.) will be honored for their accomplishments and commitment to the program.

Last Time Out: The Red Foxes were shutout by Monmouth on Saturday, 1-0. The team dropped to 6-3 in MAAC play, and had its four-game MAAC winning streak snapped by the conference’s new arrival. Marist struggled on offense and was outshot by the Hawks 20-5. Junior goalkeeper Andrea Wicks (East Northport, N.Y.) recorded seven saves for Marist in an impressive defensive effort. The team’s three conference losses have all come on the road.

Last Meeting: On Nov. 2, 2012, top-seeded Marist, playing in front of their home crowd, defeated #4 seeded Iona 2-0 in the Semifinal Round of the 2012 MAAC Championships. The Red Foxes scored twice: once from Amanda Epstein (Jericho, N.Y.) off a cross from Samantha Panzner (Livingston, N.J.) in the 18th minute and once from senior Melanie Rigo (Huntington, N.Y.) in the 85th minute. For the game, the Red Foxes outshot the Gaels 13-10, with a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Scouting Iona College: Iona is currently fourth in the MAAC with a 4-2-2 conference record and 5-7-4 overall record. The Gaels’ last game was a 1-0 overtime victory Saturday Oct. 19 against Siena in their home finale. Iona’s leading scorers this season are Nicole Paulucci with three goals and one assist and Safi Ayinde with two goals and two assists. Senior goalkeeper Trista Rivera has started all 16 games for the Gaels and owns a .814 save percentage, second best in the MAAC.

Following this matchup, Marist travels to Lake Buena Vista, Fla. for the 2013 MAAC Championships held at Disney.
