Marist Menís Lacrosse Resumes MAAC Play At Monmouth

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist men’s lacrosse team (3-8, 1-3 MAAC) resumes Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play on Saturday, April 19 as it travels to West Long Branch, N.J. to face conference newcomer, Monmouth (0-11, 0-4 MAAC). Face-off is slated for 1 p.m.

Freshman J.D. Recor (Lancaster, N.Y.) leads the Red Foxes with 34 points by way of 10 goals and a team-high 24 assists. Recor ranks ninth nationally in assists per game and leads all freshman in the country. Sophomore Joseph Radin (Long Beach, N.Y.) has 33 points, matching a team-high 27 goals alongside junior Drew Nesmith (Montclair, N.J.) and six assists. Nesmith has two assists on top of his 27 goals for 29 points. Classmate Colin Joka (Conshohocken, Pa.) also has 29 points, including 25 goals and four assists.

Last Time Out: The Red Foxes fell to No. 16 Hofstra in a non-conference match-up on Tuesday, April 8, 15-10. Nesmith led the Red Foxes with a career-high six goals.

Junior Mike Begley (Brookeville, Md.) contributed two goals while classmate Joka and Radin had one goal each. Recor and sophomore Dillon Walker (Wawa, Pa.) posted one assist each.

Junior goalkeeper Dave Scarcello (Buffalo, N.Y.) made 14 saves in the net for Marist. Joka collected a career-high five ground balls, matching a team-high with sophomore Dominic Montemurro (Kings Park, N.Y.). Joka also caused a team-high two turnovers.

Scouting the Hawks: Monmouth is currently 0-11 overall and 0-4 in conference play. This is the Hawks’ first year with a men’s lacrosse program. Monmouth is currently averaging 5.77 goals per game. Four Hawks have entered double-digit point figures for Monmouth. The team is led by Dan Bloodgood with 18 points, including 11 goals and seven assists. Chris Daly is Monmouth’s second leading scorer with 16 points off of 10 goals and six assists.

Following this match-up, Marist returns home for its season finale against Canisius. The game is slated to begin at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 26 at Tenney Stadium. Admission is free and open to the public. Prior to the game, the men’s lacrosse 2014 senior class will be honored.
