POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist head men's basketball coach Mike Maker has announced the signings of Lasse Gummerus and Austin Williams to National Letters of Intent. Gummerus and Williams will both join the Red Foxes with four years of eligibility beginning with the 2017-18 season.

Lasse Gummerus – 6-8 / 210 – Forward – Espoo, Finland / Leppavaara General

A skilled forward who displays good defensive and rebounding skills, Gummerus had a strong showing playing for Espoo United in his native country this past season. Gummerus knocked down over 42 percent of his three-point shots and was one of the youngest players on his team. He is also known for his intelligence and motor on the court.

Coach Maker on Gummerus: “Lasse is a long and mobile, sharp-shooting forward. He is a versatile defender and reliable rebounder. Pairing him with 6-foot-9 Marshall transfer Aleksandar Dozic adds an intriguing dimension to our frontcourt - size and skill. His overall profile as a person and student matches our program and institution.”

Austin Williams – 6-3 / 185 – Guard – West Orange, NJ / Seton Hall Prep

Last year, Williams' all-around game was on display at Seton Hall Prep. He averaged 16.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 2.4 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game. Williams led his team in scoring, and earned First Team All-Division honors. He was awarded All-Defensive Player at the Hoop Group Tip-Off Showcase for last season. Williams' athleticism enables him to be an asset on both ends of the floor.

Coach Maker on Williams: “Austin is an elite athlete, can play on and off the ball, and has a huge upside. He has the ability off the bounce to make plays for himself and his teammates. He comes from a quality family and high school program which makes him an ideal fit for Marist.”

The Marist men's basketball team will be entering its fourth season under Maker's leadership in 2017-18.
