LONG ISLAND, New York - The Marist men’s lacrosse and Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference’s all-time leading scorer Joseph Radin ’16 will begin the 2017 Major League Lacrosse season on the active 25-man roster for the New York Lizards.
The organization announced its final 2017 roster April 19 ahead of the start of their regular season. The Lizards will begin their 2017 campaign April 22 when they face the Chesapeake Bayhakws at 7:30 p.m. in Annapolis, Maryland.
Marist has now had an alumnus make a final MLL roster for the second straight year, as Mike Begley ’15 played for the Boston Cannons in 2016 and will also suit up for them this season. The Lizards are scheduled to play the Cannons at 7 p.m. May 20 in Harvard Stadium.
Prior to his senior year at Marist, Radin became the college’s first MLL Collegiate Draft choice when he was selected in the sixth round, 45th overall, by the Charlotte Hounds. He never played with the Hounds, but was chosen by the Lizards in the 10th round, 88th overall, of the league’s Supplemental Draft in December.
The Long Island native and left handed attackmen spent two weekends in training camp at the beginning of April. Following training camp, the Lizards trimmed their roster from 40 to 25 players and Radin made the cut.
The New York Lizards finished 8-6 last season and made the postseason before falling to the eventual MLL champion Denver Outlaws in the semifinals. Major League Lacrosse is the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league that features nine teams in eight different states.
Radin is atop the Marist and MAAC men’s lacrosse record books with 166 career goals. His 55 goals in 2015 set single season records for the school and conference. He led the MAAC with 3.75 points per game and ranked fifth nationally in goals per game (3.19) and fourth in the country with 10 man up goals last year. He ended his collegiate career playing for the North squad in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-Star Game, which was led by Marist Head Coach Keegan Wilkinson. Radin was voted MAAC Offensive Player of the Year by the league’s head coaches in 2015 and 2016.Earning many off the field accolades, Radin was Marist’s first ever finalist for the Senior CLASS Award as well as the Yeardley Reynolds Love Unsung Hero Award. His teammates voted him captain in his junior and senior years.
