The Red Foxes will play in four tournaments as part of their non-conference schedule in addition to their 18-match Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference slate. 11 matches will be held in McCann Arena.
Marist's 2017 season opener will be against the host Mountain Hawks in the Lehigh Fall Classic at 8 p.m. Aug. 25. The Red Foxes will close out the weekend with consecutive matches against Radford and Coppin State at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively, Aug. 26.
During Labor Day weekend the Red Foxes will host Binghamton in their home opener at 7 p.m. Friday, September 1. Cleveland State comes to Poughkeepsie the following day for a 3 p.m. match. The two matches will be part of the Volley In The Valley/Rose Hill Classic co-hosted by Marist in McCann Arena and Fordham in Rose Hill Gym. The Vikings won 14 of their last 15 regular season contests in 2016 before taking the Horizon League title and facing Arizona in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Red Foxes will begin a nine-match road trip with the battle for the Hudson River at Army West Point on Sept. 5, then head to the Art Carmichael Invitational at University of Rhode Island. A pair of matches are on tap for Sept. 8 as the Red Foxes will face off against the host Rams at 11 a.m. and play Columbia at 4 p.m. The weekend concludes with a 4 p.m. bout against Northeastern on Sept. 9. Marist played scrimmages against the Black Knights this past spring and the Red Foxes have won two out of the last three regular season meetings against Army West Point. The Northeastern Huskies went 20-11 overall and 10-6 in the Colonial Athletic Association last year.
The following week the Red Foxes will conclude non-conference play against Saint Francis Brooklyn and co-host LIU Brooklyn on Sept. 15 in the Big Apple Battle. The matches will take place at 3 and 6:30 p.m. respectively. LIU Brooklyn upset the top seed to win its conference last season and competed in the NCAA Tournament.
MAAC play begins with a match against arch rival Siena at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, and precedes the annual Western New York swing at Niagara and Canisius on Sept. 23 and 24 respectively. Marist clinched a spot in the MAAC Championships with a win against the Golden Griffins last year and has come back to defeat Canisius the last two seasons.
Marist will return home to face Manhattan and Iona on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, then hit the road for matches against Quinnipiac, Saint Peter's, and Rider. A big chunk of the home schedule comes next from Oct. 14-29 with contests against Fairfield, Quinnipiac, Siena, Rider and Saint Peter's. The Red Foxes' 7 p.m. match against the Saints on Friday, October 20, will be the annual Dig Pink Match for breast cancer awareness.
After a conference contest at Fairfield to kick off November, Marist will have its last home weekend series of the year and will host Canisius on Nov. 4 and Niagara on Senior Day, Nov. 5. Both matches are set for 1 p.m. The regular season concludes at Iona and Manhattan on Nov. 11 and 12 respectively.
The 2017 MAAC Volleyball Championships will take place from Nov. 17-19 at two-time defending champion Fairfield University. Marist has competed in the MAAC Championships for four straight years and has been the no. 2 seed in the tournament for the last two seasons.
The Red Foxes finished the 2016 campaign 13-17 overall and 12-6 in conference competition.
