POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men's rowing team winds down their 2016-17 season as they compete in the NIRC Regatta this Friday in Worcester, Massachusetts. The 2017 National Invitational will be on Lake Quinsigamond and features top rowing teams throughout the country.

The Red Foxes sent a first varsity eight, a second varsity eight, and a varsity four crew into competition as the team faced nationally ranked programs such as #21 Michigan and #24 Hobart in strong wind and rainy conditions.

The First varsity eight's third place finish in the third finals was good for 15th overall. The second varsity eight finished fourth in the first heat behind Michigan, Bates College, Bucknell, and Boston College but beat out Saint Lawrence by a 20 plus second margin. In the grand final for the Varsity Four, the Red Foxes finished in fifth place, beating out UMass but trailed behind Michigan, Hamilton, Bucknell, and WPI.

The Marist men's rowing team competed in a multi-dual meet with Colgate, Ithaca, and Hamilton at Hamilton College's rowing facility on the Erie Canal. Four boats raced in a set of dual races over a 2,000-meter course.

A new varsity four lineup competed against other fours from Ithaca and Hamilton on the same course. The freshman eight also competed with a new lineup and had two second place finishes. The second varsity eight had a dominant performance for the second week in a row with strong performances in the morning against Ithaca and then in the afternoon against Colgate while the varsity eight raced their toughest race in the morning against Colgate and in the afternoon against Ithaca winning both.

This will be the last race in the careers of a terrific senior class for the Red Foxes. Jack Brown, Dylan Galimi, Sam Klamer, Marten Martensson, and Christian Wiles-Lafayette all round out their senior seasons at the NIRC Regatta.
