POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Red Fox Network’s Marist Minute highlights this past week’s events and provides an upcoming schedule for this week.

Baseball picked up an impressive three-game sweep over Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rival Canisius in their first games at McCann Field this season. This past weekend was the first team that Marist had swept the Golden Griffins in 11 years. Marist’s bats were red hot, scoring in double digits in all three games, winning 10-7 and 11-4 on Saturday, April 8, and taking the final game 13-3 on Sunday, April 9.

Water polo also had a perfect week with five wins of its own. With the victories the Red Foxes have won six straight matches and 10 of their last 11 contests. The week started out with a doubleheader sweep of Siena on Wednesday, April 5, by scores of 15-7 and 14-4 respectively. In the second win, senior co-captain Amanda Amorosa scored her 274th career goal, to become the program’s all-time leading scorer. On Saturday Marist beat Iona (17-12) and St. Francis (13-4). The victory over the Gaels clinched a berth in this year's MAAC Championship, which will be held in McCann Natatorium. Marist also topped La Salle, 20-3, on Sunday.

Women’s lacrosse picked up its first two MAAC victories of the year this week. It won its first game at Manhattan, 16-9, to wrap up a seven-game road trip on Wednesday. Then on Saturday, Marist defeated Quinnipiac 10-4 in Tenney Stadium.

Men’s lacrosse emerged victorious in its only contest of the week, also getting its first MAAC win of the season. Marist pulled out a 9-8 win over defending conference champion Quinnipiac on Saturday.

Men’s tennis won all three of its matches this week to extend its winning streak to seven. The Red Foxes’ first victory came on Wednesday, a 4-3 triumph over MAAC rival Quinnipiac on Senior Day. Marist then shut out Niagara, 7-0, on Friday, April 7, and blanked St. Bonaventure, 4-0, in a non-conference clash Sunday.

Softball played two doubleheaders over the weekend, splitting both games to Fairfield and Iona. Marist took the first game against Fairfield 4-1 on Saturday, but then lost the second game by the same score. Marist took Game 1 on Sunday, beating the Gaels 6-0 in six innings, but fell 3-0 in Game 2.

Women’s tennis went 1-1 this week, winning 5-2 over Niagara on Friday, but then falling 4-1 to St. Bonaventure on Sunday.

Men’s and women’s track & field both competed in the Sam Howell Invitational on Friday and the Rider Invitational on Sunday. Sophomore Sean Patterson and freshman Zachary Ropes had the highest individual finishes for the men at the Rider Invitational. For the women, sophomore Deborah Boerke took first place in the 400-meter hurdles.

Men’s and women’s rowing both competed in the Knecht Cup on Friday and Saturday. Headlining the Red Foxes success at the Knecht Cup was senior Julia Rigothi for the women’s team.
