POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Red Fox Network’s Marist Minute highlights this past week’s events and provides an upcoming schedule for this week.
Softball had a huge week, winning five of the six games it played. The Red Foxes first swept a doubleheader against Binghamton on Thursday, March 30, by scores of 6-5 and 7-4 respectively. On Sunday, April 2, the Red Foxes split a doubleheader against Siena in their first games of the year on Gartland Field. Marist lost the first game 3-1, but then beat the Saints 10-0 in five innings in the second game. On Monday, April 3, Marist swept Cornell in its third consecutive doubleheader.
Women’s tennis had a busy week, winning two of its three matches. First was a victory over Rider on Thursday followed by a win against Saint Peter’s and loss to Siena on Sunday. Men’s tennis won its only match this week by a score of 7-0, taking down Rider this past Thursday.
Men’s lacrosse suffered a 7-2 loss to Monmouth in Tenney Stadium on Saturday, April 1. Women’s lacrosse also played Monmouth in its MAAC opener Saturday, suffering the same fate as the men. The women lost 13-10.
Baseball lost all three games of its series against Quinnipiac this past week, but took down UMass Lowell 6-5 in 13 innings at Dutchess Satdium on Wednesday, March 29. Marist lost to the Bobcats for the first time Sunday, falling 7-4. On Monday, April 3, the Red Foxes got swept in a doubleheader losing Game 1, 2-0, and Game 2, 4-2.
Men’s and women’s track and field competed in the Colonial Relays on Thursday and the Mark Young Invitational on Saturday.
In the men's 6,000-meter (4x1,500-meter) relay Saturday, the foursome of Saad Baig, Zachary Ropes, Steven Rizzo and Stefan Morton obliterated the previous school record with a fourth-place performance time of 16:00.59. The group qualified for the IC4A Championships.
For the women at the Mark Young Invitational, the 6,000-meter (4x1,500-meter) Marist relay team of Christine Gambell, Emily Burns, Shea Bohan and Mara Schiffhauer placed fourth overall and topped the previous mark set in 2014 by more than four seconds.
