BEL AIR, Maryland – The Marist baseball team is back in action this weekend with a three game series against the University of Pennsylvania Quakers on Saturday (5:30 PM) and Sunday (1:30 & 4 PM).

The Red Foxes and Quakers were supposed to play a three game series in Philadelphia at UPenn’s Meiklejohn Stadium, however, due to Winer Storm Stella dumping snow on the area, the series was moved to one game on Saturday at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium at the University of Maryland and two games on Sunday at the Harford Sports Complex in Bel Air, MD.


Marist is coming off season highs in hits (14) and runs (15) in a 15-6 win over Virginia Commonwealth University on Thursday. Redshirt freshman Tyler Kapuscinski led the Red Foxes on the day offensively, going 3-for-5 with his first career homerun, three runs scored and four RBI, while junior Matt Iantosca chipped in a 4-for-5 effort with two runs scored and two RBI, senior Tyler Kirkpatrick went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI and junior Andrew Rouse finished 1-4 with a run scored and three RBI. Sophomore Anthony Lazar chipped in a 2-for-5 effort with three runs scored, freshman Matt Rubayo picked up his first career hit and RBI, redshirt senior Matt Pagano finished 1-for-6 and sophomore Frankie Gregoire chipped in one run scored and one RBI on the afternoon.

On the hill, freshman Conor McNamara picked up his second win of the season, throwing three and one third innings while giving up four runs on seven hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Sophomore Brandon Bonomo pitched a perfect two thirds of an inning of no hit no run ball, senior John Parisi threw two innings and gave up no runs on two hits with two strikeouts, Ryan Thomas pitched two innings and gave up two runs on one hit with a walk and one strikeout and junior Spencer Bunting threw one inning and gave up no runs on two hits with one strikeout.


Kapuscinski has had a hot bat as of late, riding a five game hitting streaking heading into the weekend. In that span he is batting .378 (7-for-18) with two doubles, a home run, six walks, six runs scored and four RBI.

Rouse leads the team with a .349 (15-for-43) batting average and is second in hits (15), RBI (10) and on base percentage (.453).

On the mound, redshirt junior Scott Boches leads the Red Foxes with a 1-1 record and a 3.18 ERA. In 22.2 innings, he’s given up nine runs (eight earned) on 21 hits with nine walks and 14 strikeouts. Senior Sean Keenan has made six appearances (two starts) and is 1-0 with a 2.95 ERA. In 18.1 he has given up six runs on 11 hits with 12 walks and 19 striekouts.


Penn is lead by Sean Phelan with a .406 (13-for-32) batting average, four doubles and a .531 slugging percentage. Chris Adams is second on the team with a .400 (12-for-30) average to go along with one home run and five RBI.

On the hill, Mike Reitcheck is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in three appearances (two starts). In 18.1 innings he’s given up no runs on 10 hits with one walk and 12 strikeouts. Jake Cousins is second on the team at 1-1 with a 1.42 ERA. Through 12.2 innings, he’s given up four runs (two earned) on 13 hits with six walks and eight strikeouts.
