VILLANOVA, Pennsylvania – Following the most successful non-conference schedule since 2013, the Marist water polo team opens Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at Villanova University on Saturday. The Red Foxes will play the Wagner College Seahawks (9 AM) and the Villanova University Wildcats (2:30 PM).

NATIONAL RANKINGS:

Marist is currently ranked #24 in the lasted Collegiate Water Polo Association Women’s Varsity Week 9 Poll. The Red Foxes have been ranked for seven consecutive weeks and have been ranked as high as #23 and as low as #24.

LAST TIME OUT:

Marist is coming off a 11-10 3OT win over the #20 Cal State Northridge Matadors on Tuesday. Senior Nastassia McGlothlin scored the game winning goal with 54 seconds left in the sudden death third overtime, her third of the game to go along with two assists and one steal. Junior Diana Carballo chipped in three goals, one assist and two steals and freshman Justine Castro finished with three goals and three steals. Sophomore Ariana Singer chipped in one goal, one assist and two steals, sophomore Grace Doerfler finished with one goal and one drawn ejection and senior co-captain Amanda Amorosa finished with four assists to give her 141 in her career, one behind Shelby Rinker (2010-13) for third all-time in program history.

Junior Jessica Hermosillo started the game and goal and played the first half, finishing with four goals against, one save and one steal. Freshman Carsen Horvatich played the remainder of the game and finished with six goals against, eight saves and one steal. 

PLAYERS TO WATCH:

Amorosa leads the team with 72 shots, 26 goals and 16 assists. Carballo leads the team with 24 steals and Doerfler is first with 17 drawn ejections.

SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS:

#17 Wagner currently stands at 9-10 overall and are coming off a 3-1 weekend at the Aztec Invitational last weekend. The Seahawks opened the tournament with wins over Whittier College 14-7 and #16 UC San Diego 8-7 on Saturday, followed by a 5-4 win over #12 San Jose State and a 9-8 loss to #T-23 Cal State Bakersfield.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS:

The Wildcats stand at 8-6 (2-0 MAAC) on the season and are coming off an 0-4 tournament at the Lancer Invitational last weekend. Villanova lost to Concordia 9-8 and Cal Baptist 8-6 on Friday and 8-6 to Fresno Pacific and 7-2 to Azusa Pacific on Saturday.

Following the matchups against the Seahawks and Wildcats, the Red Foxes return to Poughkeepsie for their annual home MAAC day on Saturday, March 25th. Marist will play VMI (10:30 AM) and LaSalle (4 PM). Prior to the LaSalle game, the team’s three seniors will be recognized in a Senior Day ceremony.
