POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist Athletics Department has released the softball team’s 2017 schedule. The Red Foxes, coming off their winningest season in program history in 2016, are set to play 53 regular-season games this year.

Here is a breakdown of the 2017 season:


The team will begin their season with five tournaments, the first four will be on the road.  The Red Foxes will travel to Macon, Georgia for the Mercer Tournament, in which the team will face Savannah State (February 24 & 25), Mercer (February 24 & 26) and IPFW (February 25).

The following weekend the Red Foxes will travel to Baltimore, Maryland to compete in the UMBC Tournament. There the team will compete in doubleheaders against UMBC (March 4) and Coppin State (March 5).

The Red Foxes will spend their spring break in Honolulu, Hawaii. At the University of Hawaii Spring Fling, Marist will face Toledo (March 10), Charleston Southern (March 11) and Hawaii twice (March 11 & 12). At the Rainbow Wahine Classic, the Red Foxes will take on Purdue (March 15 & 18), UConn (March 15 & 17), Harvard (March 16) and Hawaii (March 18).

The Red Foxes will return home for their final regular season tournament.  Hosting the Red Fox Spring Classic, the team will face Hartford twice (March 24 & 25) and Harvard twice (March 25 & 26).

Non-Conference Doubleheaders

Marist is set to match up against five non-conference foes in doubleheaders. Three of the contests will be home match-ups held at Gartland Field: Cornell (April 4), Army (April 27) and Lafayette (May 3). The two remaining non-conference opponents will be on the road:  Holy Cross (April 12) and Boston University (April 19).

MAAC Opponents

Marist will play 10 doubleheaders, one against each Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference competitor. The teams that will make the trip to Poughkeepsie this year are Siena (April 2), Fairfield (April 8), Iona (April 9), Rider (May 6) and Monmouth (May 7).

The Red Foxes will travel to Quinnipiac (April 15), St. Peter’s (April 22), Manhattan (April 23), Canisius (April 29) and Niagara (April 30).

MAAC Championships

The top six finishers in MAAC regular season play will qualify for the conference championships, which will take place from May 11-14. The team which earns the #1 seed will host.

In 2016, the Marist softball team went 45-13 and made its third appearance in NCAA Regionals in program history.  The Red Foxes return six starters and 15 letterwinners from their championship squad.
