POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist Athletics Department released the men’s basketball team’s non-conference schedule on Thursday. The Red Foxes will play 10 non-conference games, including two at McCann Arena, in their first season under the direction of head coach Mike Maker.

“It’s certainly challenging, but our focus is going to be on Marist, and how we can make our program the best that it can be,” Maker said. “I think the MAAC principles in regard to scheduling up are what make this league and this job so attractive. Those kinds of opportunities for our players and for our program bring visibility and competitiveness. We’re not going to shy away from that.”

The Red Foxes will have two home non-conference games this season. Marist’s opener at McCann Arena will take place on Saturday, Nov. 22 against Hudson Valley rival Army. Marist and Army played home-and-home in the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons, with each team prevailing on its home court. The Red Foxes lead the all-time series, 9-5.

On Saturday, Dec. 20, Marist will welcome Saint Joseph’s to McCann Arena for the first time in program history. Last season, the Hawks went 24-10, won the Atlantic 10 Tournament championship and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Marist will open its season at Patriot League foe Bucknell on Friday, Nov. 14. It will be the seventh meeting in the last eight years between the Red Foxes and Bison. Last season, Marist earned a 69-51 victory at McCann Arena on Dec. 20.

From Monday, Nov. 24 through Wednesday, Nov. 26, Marist will play three games in three consecutive days in the Gulf Coast Showcase. The tournament includes four teams which advanced to postseason play last year: host Florida Gulf Coast (NIT), Fresno State (CBI finalist), Green Bay (NIT, Horizon League regular-season champion) and San Francisco (NIT). East Carolina and Evansville are also in the field. Match-ups and game times will be determined at a later date.

On Monday, Dec. 1, Marist will travel to Boston College of the Atlantic Coast Conference. It will be the second meeting between the Red Foxes and Eagles in program history, and first since 2000.

Marist will travel to the historic Palestra to face Ivy League foe Penn on Tuesday, Dec. 9. Last season, the Red Foxes defeated the Quakers 76-62 at McCann Arena on Dec. 22. It will be the fourth meeting between the teams in the last five seasons.

The Red Foxes will head south to face Virginia Military Institute on Saturday, Dec. 13. This will be a return game from VMI’s BracketBusters trip to Poughkeepsie on Feb. 23, 2013, which Marist won by a score of 112-74. Last year, the Keydets went 22-13 and reached the College Insider Tournament semifinals.

Marist will head to Elon for the first time in program history, which will be a return game for the Phoenix’s trip to Poughkeepsie last season for the Red Foxes’ home opener. The game date will be announced in the future.

Game times will be announced at a later date, as will the full 20-game Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference schedule.
