POUGHKEEPSIE – Junior catcher Mark Brennan (Wallingford, Conn.) of the Marist baseball team has been named CoSIDA/Capital One First Team Academic All-District.

A Psychology major, Brennan has appeared in 21 games, and has made a team-high 18 starts behind the plate for the Red Foxes this season. He is a solid defensive catcher and receiver who leads the team with five sacrifice bunts, and has driven in six runs this year.

Outside of the classroom, Brennan and his teammates have participated in initiatives such as Make a Difference Day, which included exterior cleanup for 40 homes in the City of Poughkeepsie, as well as the Hunger Walk on the Marist campus and Freshman Move-In Day.

Brennan was selected to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Academic Team in 2013, and was named the conference’s Rookie of the Week following his first week of collegiate action on Feb. 21, 2012.

Brennan is the third student-athlete in the Marist Athletics Department to earn an Academic All-District honor this season, following Tyler Ramsey (football) and Brooke Zywick (volleyball). The Marist Athletics Department now has a total of 88 All-District honorees in its history. Brennan will now be placed on the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-America ballot.

The Marist baseball team returns to action this weekend with a three-game conference series at Niagara. The Red Foxes and Purple Eagles are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon, and a single game on Sunday at noon.
