POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - After an emotional senior night ceremony, the Marist men's lacrosse team (5-8, 3-3 MAAC) defeated Canisius (7-7, 3-3 MAAC) 13-7. The Red Foxes needed to win to secure a spot in next weekend's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Tournament. Marist has clinched the No. 2 spot in the tournament and will face No. 3 Detroit in the semi-finals.

Freshman J.D. Recor (Lancaster, N.Y.) led the Marist attack once again with six points on three goals and three assists. Junior Colin Joka (Conshohocken, Pa.) had a game-high four goals. Sophomore Joseph Radin (Long Beach, N.Y.) netted three goals while juniors Mike Begley (Brookeville, Md.), Drew Nesmith (Montclair, N.J.) and sophomore Nick Kilkowski (Summit, N.J.) added one goal each. Begley and sophomore Dominic Montemurro (Kings Park, N.Y.) dished out one assist apiece.

Montemurro won 10-of-20 face-offs for Marist. Junior goalkeeper Dave Scarcello (Buffalo, N.Y.) had a shut-down performance in the net with four saves, allowing just one goal in the first half. Scarcello also had a team-high four ground balls alongside Begley.

Austin Romantic scored the first goal of the game less than two minutes in to the first quarter. Marist proceeded to score nine unanswered goals, carrying over into the third quarter, including an 8-1 lead at the half.

Canisius' Billy Jacobbi scored the Griffs' second goal of the evening at the 13:10 mark in the third quarter to break the silence as his team trailed, 9-2. Three straight goals by Joka (2) and Recor propelled Marist ahead to a 12-2 lead to close the third quarter.

Tim Edwards and Nick Tuttle scored back-to-back goals to open up the fourth quarter but Canisius still trailed Marist 12-4. Recor completed his hat trick at the 9:13 mark to post a 13-4 Marist advantage. Canisius scored the final three goals of the game but the comeback attempt would fall short.
