The Marist football team is in its final week of spring practice. The Red Foxes will wrap up spring ball with their annual Spring Football game on Sunday, April 27 at 4 p.m. Here is a look at the Marist offense, which returns four starters from last season:
Position Coach: Jim Parady
After losing star quarterback and captain Chuckie Looney the Red Foxes will have a tight battle between junior Ed Achziger, junior Caylin Moore and sophomore Anthony Francis for the starting spot. Looney departs Marist as the program’s all-time leader in most major passing categories. Both Achziger and Moore saw playing time last season.
Position Coach: Nate Fields
After losing four starting offensive linemen in Brandon Castelbuono, Phede Celestin, Peter Evans, and Rocco Manfre, the Red Foxes are left with one starting offensive lineman in Mike Mangino. However, Marist will still return a considerable amount of players who have previously seen game action. Fifth-year senior Jack Meussner, senior Kyle Bakker and junior Ryan Schneider have all started games in their careers. Meussner will be a captain this season. Senior Sean Foley and junior Dan Rice also have plenty of experience and should be in the mix for a starting spot.
Position Coach: Jake Dembow
This is one of the deepest and strongest areas of the team. Fifth-year senior running back Atiq Lucas returns after scoring 11 touchdowns and rushing for 4.8 yards per carry. Lucas, one of three offensive captains, was named Second Team All-PFL last season. Senior Emmanuel Onakoya also returns after rushing for 3 touchdowns and 4.9 yards per carry. Junior Garrett Clay and sophomore Marcellus Calhoun are among those expected to battle for carries in the deep backfield for the Red Foxes.
Position Coach: Marc Bourque
The Red Foxes return two starters from last season after losing Bartley Leneghan, who scored eight touchdowns and recorded 833 receiving yards. Fifth-year senior Armani Martin, who set the single-season receiving touchdown record (12) at Marist last year returns; Martin was also named All-PFL Honorable Mention and will be a captain this season. Also returning is senior Joe Tralli, who caught 2 touchdowns and 347 receiving yards and senior Matt Tralli, who was named All-PFL Honorable Mention. Matt Tralli led the team in receptions with 50 and scored four touchdowns.
Position Coach: Pete Mahoney
After losing starting tight end David Diomede, the Red Foxes will look to junior Derek Gardner and senior Louis Cotrone as replacements; both will see plenty of playing time.
