Women's Crew Retains Presidentís Cup
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Marist women’s crew hosted the President’s Cup on Saturday, competing against Army and Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Iona. The women prevailed to retain the President's Cup
The Varsity Eight took first place for the Red Foxes with a time of 5:53.0. The team defeated Army by 10 seconds, as well as Iona by 12 seconds. The boat consisted of senior coxswain Zoe Christopher, senior Flavia Siclovan, junior Elizabeth Hehir, junior Annie Devorak, junior Stephanie Moriarty, sophomore Brittany Morrissey, sophomore Jennifer Keen, freshman Julia Rigothi, and sophomore Jessica Collins.
In the same event, the Second Varsity Eight placed fourth for Marist with a time of 6:08.7. The boat consisted of sophomore coxswain Erica Bogdan, junior Kristin Wilson, junior Nora Culhane, freshman Astrid Skjaerpe, senior Meg Ladouceur, sophomore Ali Shaw, freshman Katherine Perry, senior Theresa Fillippini, and junior Kira Melendez.
Also coming first place for Marist, the Novice Eight finished with a time of 6:22.0. Army placed second in the event, while Iona took third.
The Red Foxes kept up with the first-place finishes, as the Varsity Four won with a time of 6:09.36. Marist B placed fourth in the event, coming in behind Army A and Iona A. The second boat defeated Army B, Iona B and Iona C. The boat consisted of freshman coxswain Alexis Batulis, freshman Kimberly Foster, freshman Carrie Rapp, junior Danielle Villa, and senior Kristin Mahoney.
The Novice Four placed second behind Army with a time of 5:39.00 to close out the day.
The Red Foxes also honored women's seniors Nijla Mingo, Zoe Christopher, Theresa Fillippini, Meaghan Ladouceur, Kristen Mahoney and Flavia Siclovan following the races.
On Saturday, April 26, the MAAC Rowing Championships will be held in West Windsor, N.J. The women's champion will receive a berth in the NCAA Championships, which Marist is looking to achieve for the second straight year.
