WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Sophomore Joseph Radin (Long Beach, N.Y.) recorded four goals and one assist to lead the Marist men’s lacrosse team (4-8, 2-3 MAAC) to a 12-9 victory over Monmouth (0-12, 0-5 MAAC). With the win, the Red Foxes move to 2-3 in conference play, heading into their final game of the season next weekend.

Freshman J.D. Recor (Lancaster, N.Y.) and junior Colin Joka (Conshohocken, Pa.) netted two goals each while Recor added two assists. Sophomores Nick Papayanakos (Manlius, N.Y.), Dillon Walker (Wawa, Pa.), Nick Kilkowski (Summit, N.J.) and freshman John Vigh (Holtsville, N.Y) added one goal each.

Kilkowski, juniors Drew Nesmith (Montclair, N.J.), Mike Begley (Brookeville, Md.), senior Gannon Osborn (Canandaigua, N.Y.), and Walker dished out one assist each. Junior goalkeeper Dave Scarcello (Buffalo, N.Y.) made 10 saves in goal for the Red Foxes and had one assist. Sophomore Dominic Montemurro (Kings Park, N.Y.) won 12-of-21 face-offs and collected four ground balls. Nesmith had a career-high six ground balls followed by Begley and junior Patrick Eaker (Redding, Conn.) with five and four, respectively.

Monmouth kept Marist scoreless for the opening 10 minutes of the first quarter and netted two of their own to take a 2-0 lead. Radin scored two goals in the final five minutes of the first quarter to tie the game at two-all.

The Red Foxes kept Monmouth off the board in the second quarter but scored three more of their own to take a 5-2 lead at half. Recor, Walker, and Radin each scored for Marist.

The Hawks opened the third period of play with a quick goal less than one minute in to cut Marist’s lead, 5-3 with 14:03 left to play. Four different Red Foxes would score the next four goals for Marist as it took a commanding 9-3 lead with 49 seconds remaining the third. Kilkowski, Radin, Vigh, and Recor all recorded one goal apiece. Monmouth’s Chris Daly, who had four goals in the game, snuck one in with 32 seconds to play as his Hawk’s trailed Marist 9-4 entering the fourth quarter.

Ryan Schwartz and Zach Johannes netted consecutive goals for Monmouth to open up the fourth period of action to cur Marist’s lead to three. Joka scored back-to-back goals in a two minute span to push his Red Foxes ahead 11-6 with 4:56 to go. Johannes got on the board again for the Hawks with 4:25 left with Monmouth still trailing Marist, 11-7. Papayanakos scored his first goal of the season with 2:13 left to give Marist a 12-7 edge over the Hawks. Monmouth would score twice more before time expired but it wouldn’t be enough as the Red Foxes walked away with a 12-9 victory.

Marist plays its last game of the regular season on Saturday, April 26 against Canisius. Face-off is set for 7 p.m. at Tenney Stadium. Admission is free and open to the public. Prior to the game, the men’s lacrosse class of 2014 will be honored.
