Menís Lacrosse Closes Non-Conference Play At #16 Hofstra
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist men’s lacrosse team (3-7, 1-3 MAAC) will face No. 16 Hofstra (7-3, 3-0 CAA) to conclude the non-conference portion of its schedule. The game is slated to begin at 7 p.m. in Hempstead, N.Y. on Tuesday, April 8. Live stats will be available.
Freshman J.D. Recor (Lancaster, N.Y.) leads the Red Foxes with 33 points, including 10 goals and a team-high 23 assists, best for eight nationally. Sophomore Joseph Radin (Long Beach, N.Y.) is right behind Recor with 32 points, consisting of a team-high 26 goals and six assists. Juniors Colin Joka (Conshohocken, Pa.), Mike Begley (Brookeville, Md.), and Drew Nesmith (Montclair, N.J.) are all above 20 points for Marist as well. Joka (27) has 23 goals and four assists, Begley (25) has 17 goals and eight assists, while Nesmith (23) has 21 goals and two assists.
Last Time Out: Marist fell to Detroit (5-5, 2-1 MAAC) on Saturday, April 5, 12-11. Begley and Joka each had a hat trick to lead the Red Foxes. Sophomore Dominic Montemurro (Kings Park, N.Y.) won 20-of-26 face-offs.
Montemurro, Recor, Nesmith, Connor O’Neill (Sayville, N.Y.), and senior Gannon Osborn (Canandaigua, N.Y.) contributed one goal each. Radin and Recor dished out two assists each. Junior goalkeeper Dave Scarcello (Buffalo, N.Y.) made eight saves in the net for Marist. Osborn collected a game-high six ground balls and junior Patrick Eaker (Redding, Conn.) caused a game-high four turnovers.
Scouting the Pride: Hofstra is currently 7-3 overall and 3-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Pride most recently defeated Siena, 7-6. Red-shirt sophomore Korey Hendrickson scored four goals including the game-winner with 1:05 to play in regulation to give Hofstra the win. The Pride are currently on a three game winning streak and are 6-1 this season at home.
Marist and Hofstra have shared three common opponents this season: Marquette, Towson, and Siena. The Red Foxes defeated Marquette but fell to Towson and Siena while Hofstra defeated Towson and Siena but fell to Marquette.
Sam Llinares leads Hofstra with 32 points, including 14 goals and 18 assists. Drew Coholan has 20 points, consisting of 15 goals and five assists. Four other Pride are in double figures; Torin Varn (17), Lance Yapor (17), Korey Hendrickson (15), and Mike Malave (14). Starting goalkeeper Chris Selva has made 91 saves this season with 85 goals against. He has a save percentage of 51.7 percent.
Following this matchup, Marist resumes Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play after an 11 day break on Saturday, April 19 at Monmouth. Face-off is set for 1 p.m. in West Long Branch, N.J.
