EDISON, N.Y. – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) honored two Marist Crew boats with weekly rowing awards this week for their performances at the Iona Invite.
Women's Varsity Eight:
At the Iona Invite, the Varsity Eight placed second with a time of 6:46.53, just six seconds behind Fordham. The boat beat out Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) rival Fairfield to kick off the competition. In the second bout of races for the day, the Varsity Eight took a first-place finish for the Red Foxes. The boat defeated Lehigh as well as MAAC rival Robert Morris. The boat consisted of senior Zoe Christopher (Rochester, N.Y.), senior Flavia Siclovan (Clifton Park, N.Y.), junior Elizabeth Hehir (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), junior Annie Devorak (Nashua, N.H.), sophomore Jennifer Keen (Southington, Conn.), sophomore Brittany Morrissey (North Andover, Mass.), junior Stephanie Moriarty (Shrewsbury, Mass.), freshman Julia Rigothi (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and sophomore Jessica Collins (Simsbury, Conn.).
Women's Second Varsity Eight:
At the Iona Invite, the Second Varsity Eight boat finished in 7:12.04, also ahead of Fairfield and behind Fordham. In the second bout of races for the day, the boat went on to complete the heat in 7:32.97, falling behind to Lehigh by 12 seconds. The boat defeated conference foe Robert Morris in the race. The boat consisted of sophomore Erica Bogdan (Haddam, Conn.), junior Kristin Wilson (Baldwinsville, N.Y.), junior Kira Melendez (Southbridge, Mass.), freshman Astrid Skjaerpe (Norway), senior Meg Ladouceur (Slingerlands, N.Y.), sophomore Ali Shaw (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), junior Nora Culhane (Oakdale, N.Y.), senior Theresa Filippinni (Torrington, Conn.), and freshman Katherine Perry (Barrington, R.I.)
This weekend, the women’s crew team will compete at the UConn Invite on Saturday before traveling to the Sacred Heart Invite on Sunday.
