Gionta And Witczak Earn ECAC Women's Lacrosse Player Of The Week Honors
CENTERVILLE, Mass. - Sophomore Allison Gionta (Eastport, N.Y.) and freshman Abigail Witczak (Mendham, N.J.) have been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Players of the week. Gionta and Witczak were given the same honors this week by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).
Gionta registered a team-high six points in Marist’s 12-7 win over Binghamton on Wednesday. She scored four goals on six shots and dished out two assists in the win. All six of Gionta’s shots were on goal. She also collected one ground ball as well in the contest.
Witczak helped her team improve to 6-2 this season with another stellar performance in the net. Witczak posted 12 saves for Marist in 60 minuts of action and recorded a save percentage of 63.2 percent in the win. She also collected three ground balls.
The Red Foxes return to action on Wednesday, Apr. 2 against MAAC defending champion, Canisius. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. in Buffalo, N.Y.
