PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Marist softball team heads to the city of brotherly love for a non-conference doubleheader today. The team’s make-up game against Fairfield was cancelled yesterday due to weather, and has been rescheduled for April 16 at 4 p.m.

The Red Foxes enter today’s matchup with a 7-14 overall record, as the team defeated Fairfield on Saturday to claim its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) victory.

The conference win was a shutout, as junior Janine Lalli (Eastchester, N.Y.) claimed the victory to improve her overall record to 3-3. Junior Taylor Kuzma (Freehold, N.J.) led the team with a grand slam to compile four RBI’s in the outing.

Kuzma currently leads the team in the season with 15 runs, while sophomore Kyrsten Van Natta (Maplewood, N.J.) heads the Red Foxes with 19 hits and 15 RBI’s. On the defense end, senior Alyssa Zahka (Lexington, Mass.) has notched 89 putouts, while Van Natta has posted 46 assists.

The Competition:

The Wildcats enter today’s matchup with an 8-17 overall record, while they are 0-3 in the Big East. The team’s last three games against Seton Hall were postponed due to weather. Villanova’s last outing ended in two losses to Drexel in a doubleheader on March 27.

Leading Villanova, Sierra McConnell claimed two homeruns and five RBI’s. Of the team’s 23 games, Kate Poppe is 5-10 overall with a 1.92 ERA.

The Red Foxes will kick off today’s doubleheader at 2:30 p.m.
