POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist men’s lacrosse team (3-5, 1-1 MAAC) will take on the Manhattan Jaspers (1-7, 0-1 MAAC) on alumni night on Saturday, Mar 29. The game is slated to begin at 1 p.m. at Tenney Stadium. Admission is free and open to the public. Fans who cannot attend the game can watch live on the Red Fox Network.
Sophomore Joseph Radin (Long Beach, N.Y.) leads Marist with 28 points, including 24 goals and four assists. Freshamn J.D. Recor (Lancaster, N.Y.) is right behind him with 26 points with eight goals and a team-high 18 assists. Junior Drew Nesmith (Montclair, N.J.) has a second-high 18 goals followed by junior Colin Joka (Conshohocken, Pa.) with 17.
Last Time Out: Marist fell to Brown (5-3, 0-1 Ivy) in a close game on Tuesday night, 13-11. Juniors Mike Begley (Brookeville, Md.) and Joka each had a hat trick while Begley added one assist.
Nesmith and Radin had two goals apiece while Nesmith dished out an assist. Freshman Connor O’Neill (Sayville, N.Y.) posted one goal for the Red Foxes. Recor contributed two assists while senior Gannon Osborn (Canandaigua, N.Y.) added one. Junior goalie Dave Scarcello (Buffalo, N.Y.) recorded seven saves in the net for Marist.
Marist outshot Brown 46-to-24, picked up 37 ground balls to 18 for the Bears, and had 11 turnovers compare to Brown’s 17. Sophomore Dominic Montemurro (Kings Park, N.Y.) was dominant at the face-off x, winning 21-28 face-offs. Brown capitalized on 3-of-5 man up opportunities.
Last Meeting: The last time the Red Foxes and Jaspers met on the field was April 27, 2013. Manhattan went on to win the game, 14-12, which was their only MAAC win of the season, and ultimately Marist’s only MAAC loss of theirs.
Nesmith had a career-high eight points on four goals and four assists. He tied Connor Rice (Penfield, N.Y.) for the team-high this season in points. Rice finished with a hat trick on Saturday. Jack Doherty (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) had two goals and an assist and Jim Marks (Camillus, N.Y.) also had three points on a goal and two assists. Matt Dugan (Cortland, N.Y.) went 15-22 in face-offs and scooped up a season-high 10 ground balls. Marist outshot Manhattan 48-35 for the game.
Scouting the Jaspers: Manhattan has lost five of their seven games by five goals or more. The Jaspers are currently on the two-game losing streak, falling to Stony Brook and MAAC foe, Quinnipiac last week. Manhattan’s lone win of the season came against Mount St. Mary’s, 8-7.
The Jaspers and Marist share two opponents so far this season; Quinnipiac and Stony Brook. Manhattan fell to the Bobcats, 10-7, and the Seawolves, 12-8. Marist defeated both opponents, topping Quinnipiac 13-8 and Stony Brook in its season opener, 13-12.
Patrick Hodapp leads the Jaspers with 15 points, including 10 goals and five assists. Two players, Andrew Hurst and Marcel Godino each have a team second-best nine points followed by Ryan Payton and Brett Madarasz with eight each. Starting goalkeeper Rich Akapnitis has started all eight games, recording 103 goals against with 109 saves, with a 51.4 save percentage.
Following this matchup, Marist heads to Detroit, Mich. for a conference face-off against Detroit, The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
