YAPHANK – The Marist baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Albany on Tuesday. The Red Foxes dropped the first game 3-0, but rebounded for a 7-4 triumph in game two in a pair of seven-inning contests.

Marist served as the designated home team for game one, while Albany was the home team in the second game.

In game one, the Red Foxes had a runner on base in each of the first six innings. Freshman right-hander Stephen Priolo (Voorhees, N.J.) pitched 5.1 innings of strong relief for Marist.

In game two, the Red Foxes got a two-run home run off the bat of senior captain Zachary Passerelle (Sparta, N.J.), a three-run third inning, and got a key insurance run in the fourth on an RBI double from senior captain Nick McQuail (Wantagh, N.Y.).

Junior right-hander Evan Davis (Little Falls, N.Y.) entered the game with a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the third inning, and proceeded to toss three effective innings of relief to earn the win. Freshman right-hander Ryan Thomas (Ringoes, N.J.) retired all six batters he faced in the final two innings to earn his fourth save.

Marist now stands at 5-11, while Albany is 4-8.

Marist returns to action this weekend, when it opens Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at conference newcomer Monmouth. The Red Foxes and Hawks will play a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at noon, followed by a single game on Sunday at noon.
