SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -

The Marist women's basketball team defeated Siena by a score of 87-65 in the quarterfinal round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women's Basketball Championship on Friday night at the MassMutual Center. This was the fifth consecutive win the Red Foxes have had in the tournament by at least 20 points and the 24th straight tournament win dating back to 2005.

Hot-shooting Marist converted at a .563 clip (27-for-48) from the field and drained 11 three-pointers. Two Red Foxes - sophomore forward Madeline Blais (Exeter, N.H.) and senior guard Leanne Ockenden (Syracuse, N.Y.) - did not miss a shot on the night. Blais had 16 points and went 4-for-4 from the field, 2-for-2 from three-point range and 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Ockenden had 14 points on a 5-for-5 performance from the field, and hit all four of her three-point shots.

Sophomore Sydney Coffey (Hopkins, Minn.) posted 15 points, five assists, and three steals for the Red Foxes. Redshirt junior Tori Jarosz (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) was the final player in double-figures for Marist, recording 12 points. Senior Emma O'Connor (Lynbrook, N.Y.) had nine points while juniors Natalie Gomez-Martinez (Andover, Mass.) and Eileen Van Horn (Waukesha, Wis.) had seven and six points off the bench, respectively. Marist had 22 assists on 27 made baskets.

Kelsey Booth led Siena with 14 points, 13 rebounds, four blocks and four steals.

The teams traded baskets to open play to result in a tied 4-4 score two minutes in. Over the following 10 minutes, Marist went on a 26-11 run to double the Siena, 30-15, with 6:42 left in the first half. The Saints responded with a 9-2 run to cut the Red Fox lead to just eight, 32-24, heading into the final four minutes. Marist closed the first half on a strong 12-3 run to take a 44-27 lead after 20 minutes of play.

The Red Foxes opened the second half on a 13-3 run to propel ahead of the Saints by 28 points with 15:49 left to play in the second half. Marist scored another 22 points to Siena’s 14 to lead the Saints 80-44 as the game headed into the final seven minutes. As Marist emptied its bench, Siena would post a 21-7 lead to close the game but the comeback attempt would fall short as the Red Foxes advance to the MAAC semifinals.

Marist will face the winner of Friday night's 9:30 start between Fairfield and Rider in Sunday's semifinal round. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:30.
