Women’s Lacrosse Continues Road Slate At Hofstra
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women’s lacrosse team travels to Hempstead, N.Y. on Friday, Mar. 7 to face Hofstra (2-2, 0-0 CAA). The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. This will be the first meeting between the two teams.
Last Time Out: Marist opened its five game road trip with two decisive victories in California, winning 12-10 against USC and beating Fresno State 17-8. Leading the Red Foxes over the weekend were senior Jamie Romano (Kings Park, N.Y) and sophomore Allison Gionta (Eastport, N.Y.), who accounted for a combined 13 goals and two assists. Freshman goalie Abigail Witczak was recently named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women’s lacrosse Rookie of the Week. She had a total 11 saves on the weekend with 37 shots faced. She had a combined save percentage of 42.3 percent. Witczak made eight saves against USC in 60 minutes of play in 28 shots faced and three saves against Fresno State in 43 minutes of play in nine shots faced.
Scouting the Pride: Junior attack Brittain Altomare has been leading the way for Hofstra so far this season. With nine goals and seven assists, Altomare has been a key component for Hofstra’s success this season. Junior goalie Kelsey Gregerson has also been an important factor for the Pride this season as well. With 40 goals against and 38 saves on 118 goals faced, Gregerson has played 288:43 minutes out of the team’s possible 300.
Following this matchup, the Red Foxes head to Pennsylvania to face Bucknell on Wednesday, Mar. 12. The game is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
