Three Red Foxes Named To Women’s Basketball All-MAAC Teams
EDISON, N.J – On Monday, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announced the 2013-14 All-MAAC Women’s Basketball Teams as voted upon by the 11 head coaches. Senior Emma O'Connor (Lynbrook, N.Y.) was named to the All-MAAC First Team, sophomore Madeline Blais (Exeter, N.H.) was named to the All-MAAC Second Team, and senior Leanne Ockenden (Syracuse, N.Y.) was named to the All-MAAC Third Team.
O'Connor helped guide Marist to its 11th consecutive regular season MAAC title. O’Connor started all 30 games for the Red Foxes, leading the team with 13.8 points per game, 6.8 rebounds per game, and a 56 percent field goal percentage. She finished the regular season leading the MAAC in field goal percentage (56.0). She also ranked sixth in the league in both scoring (13.8 ppg) and in rebounding (6.8 rpg). O’Connor has won MAAC Player of the week twice this season.
Blais finished the year averaging a team second-best 13 points per game, 4.1 rebounds per game, and a 53.3 percent field goal percentage. In 29 starts, Blais led the Red Foxes with a 47.1 three-point field goal percentage. She finished the regular season leading the MAAC in three-point percentage, second for field goal percentage behind teammate O’Connor, sixth for free-throw percentage, seventh for three-point field goals made and ninth in scoring.
Ockenden started all 30 games for Marist and finished the regular season with 11.8 points per game, a team second-best 4.7 rebounds per game, and a 49.1 field goal percentage. She led the team by a significant margin with 52 steals. Ockenden finished the year fifth in the MAAC for field-goal percentage, fourth in steals and seventh in minutes played.
The Red Foxes head to Springfield, Mass. this weekend for the MAAC Tournament. Marist opens play on Friday, Mar. 7 at 7 p.m. The Red Foxes will face the winner of Siena and Manhattan.
