ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The men’s swimming and diving team placed third at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships, tallying 407 points throughout the weekend, while also claiming a school record.
Junior Nick Vandermolen (Brielle, N.J.) broke the Marist record in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:02.64, finishing in ninth place in the event.
Also leading the Red Foxes, senior Sean Molloy (Slingerlands, N.Y.) claimed the gold medal in the three-meter dive with a score of 299.10.
Also for Marist, junior Jason Ruddy (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) posted a second place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:50.27.
Junior John Spitzer took a third place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 45.56. Also for Marist, junior Spencer Kelley (Weston, Conn.) placed 11th (47.04) and senior Alex Lombardi (Branford, Conn.) finished in 14th (47.18).
Junior Dylan Cummings (Midland Park, N.J.) placed sixth in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:50.66, while junior Brendan McCarthy (West Chester, Pa.) finished in 15th place (1:54.25).
In the 1,650 freestyle race, junior Sean Sullivan (Huntington, N.Y.) placed 11th with a time of 15:59.14. Also in the event, freshman Ryan Murphy (New Fairfield, Conn.) took 17th (16:16.08), junior Bill Drennen (Collegeville, Pa.) placed 20th (16:41.33), and senior Nick Cook (Middlebury, Conn.) claimed 22nd (16:47.33).
Also for the Red Foxes, freshman Alex Cassel (East Greenville, Pa) and Sullivan placed 15th (1:55.73) and 16th (1:56.09), respectively, in the 200-yard butterfly.
In the last event for the 2013-14 season, the Red Foxes will compete at the NCAA Zone Qualifying Diving Championships from March 10-12.
