POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist women’s basketball team (23-6, 17-2 MAAC) travels to Iona (25-3, 18-1 MAAC) on Sunday, Mar. 2 for its final regular season game of the 2013-14 year. Tip-off is set for noon in New Rochelle, N.Y. With Marist win, the Red Foxes would earn a share of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) regular season title.

Head coach Brian Giorgis earned his 300th career win on Friday night as the Marist women’s basketball team defeated Monmouth 83-52. Marist also clinched the second seed for the MAAC tournament next weekend.
Senior Emma O'Connor (Lynbrook, N.Y.) finished with a game-high 16 points, six rebounds, and two steals. Sophomore Sydney Coffey (Hopkins, Minn.) posted 14 points and two steals. Senior Leanne Ockenden (Syracuse, N.Y.) had 13 points and three assists. Senior Casey Dulin (Milford, Conn.) recorded 10 points and a game-high seven assists. Sophomore Madeline Blais (Exeter, N.H.) had 10 points and four boards for the Red Foxes. Redshirt junior Tori Jarosz (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) had a team-high seven rebounds.
Marist had 36 rebounds, 21 assists, and 10 steals on the night. The Red Foxes forced 22 Monmouth turnovers and only allowed four steals. Marist shot 47.5 percent from the floor, 50 percent from three-point range, and 83.3 percent from the free-throw line.
Last time Marist and Iona met on Jan. 13at McCann Arena, the Gaels came out on top, 73-71. Damika Martinez and Joy Adams led the way for Iona with 18 points each. Aaliyah Robinson and Aleesha Powell contributed 17 and 16 points respectively. Sydney Coffey scored a team high 17 points for the Red Foxes. Dulin had 16 points while O’Connor collected 14. The defeat was Marist’s first MAAC loss since February 4, 2012 at Manhattan.
Iona won its last game over Quinnipiac by a score of 80-72, clinching the number one overall seed in the MAAC Tournament and at least a share of the regular season MAAC Title. Junior guard Damika Martinez had a team high 20 points along with nine rebounds. Joy Adams tallied 14 points, 18 rebounds, 5 assists and three steals for the Gaels. Iona currently leads the MAAC in scoring offense (74.5), free throw percentage (.787) and 3-point field goal percentage (.384). Martinez leads the MAAC in scoring, averaging 24.7 ppg while Joy Adams leads the MAAC in rebounding with 14.1 rpg.
Following this matchup, the Red Foxes head to the MAAC Tournament, seeking its 10th MAAC Championship title. Marist opens up play on Friday, Mar. 7 at 7 p.m.
